With a history spanning 101 years, the Archibald prize represents one of the most prestigious awards in the Australian art world.

On Friday, May 13th, Blak Douglas’ portrait of Karla Dickens — ‘Moby Dickens’ — was announced as the winner of the 2022 competition, making history as the first winning portrait to feature an Indigenous woman as a subject, and only the second to be painted by an Indigenous artist.
