The recent Albanese government has pledged a full commitment to the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

The statement calls for a First Nations voice to inform Parliament, and to be enshrined in the Australian constitution so it can’t be removed by any government of the day.

To do this, the constitution must be amended by a referendum, but historically, there is only 8 passed referendums out of 40.
