Ann Maree Smith died a tragic death last year. Disabled by cerebral palsy, the care she was meant to have failed and she was left to die of neglect. Her case and others have prompted the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability to examine how disability service providers can prevent such neglect and exploitation happening. One important factor is to keep an eye over care plans in the form of either health checks or regular community visitors.
