Earlier this week, Australia’s journalist union, the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA) announced it will leave the Australian Press Council (APC) in 2025, claiming the media regulator has lost credibility and is no longer fit for purpose.

The organisation says that the APC is not keeping up with changes in the media landscape, and the MEAA hope their decision will spark discussion about the need for a simpler, unified system of media regulation that better serves journalists and the Australian public.
