Earlier in August, Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek cancelled a petition from the Traditional Custodians of the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia to block the construction of a fertiliser plan near an Aboriginal heritage area.

Today, an independent reporter was appointed to conduct a full heritage assessment of the area, which will be reported to Ms Plibersek.

While this is good news for the community, Traditional Custodians and the community want the Federal government to listen to their concerns to avoid a catastrophe such as the Juukan Gorge back in 2020.
