The Papua New Guinea Government is attempting to introduce new laws that reduce violence related to sorcery, after it was revealed that there are citizens who are profiteering from these attacks. The news comes as PNG go past 17,000 cases for the pandemic, with some suspecting that the accusations of witchcraft deaths were actually associated with a surge of COVID-19 cases.
The first part of a PNG Conference on Sorcery Accusations & Related Violence has also been hosted today by Miranda Forsyth and the National Research Institute Papau New Guinea. The second part will be held tomorrow, on the 22 June 2021.
