In the year since pro-democracy protests took over the city of Hong Kong, the city has quickly gone quiet in response to the double threats of COVID-19 and Beijing’s sweeping security overhaul that has seen activists jailed and charged with crimes against the state.

The international community has responded with offers of asylum and resettlement to the people of Hong Kong, and many are seriously considering the move.
