Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce have recently expressed support for defamation reform in Australia, specifically regarding online abuse.
The review of model defamation provisions has been underway since 2019, and is currently in it’s second stage.
The liability of digital platforms and publishers for comments made on posts is currently being considered in the bill, raising questions about the implications of this bill and its potential to affect freedom of speech.
