A recent report from ClimateWorks suggests net-zero targets set by State and Territory Governments can play a key role in Australia meeting international expectations for curbing emissions. The report sets individual benchmarks for different sectors across Australia’s economy to ensure global warming is limited to truly below two degrees. It calls for key measures to be put in place to achieve this outcome such as scaling up the use of renewable energy and mature technologies (to make up three-quarters of the country’s electricity grid), investment in Research and Development, and ensuring long-lived assets are built to consider emissions targets.
