Scientists are calling on the Great Barrier Reef Marine Authority to release their results on bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef, after the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age reported that they were being delayed for no apparent reason.

The push back of the release date has made some people believe that politicians want to keep it off the agenda as the parties continue with their election campaigns. The latest bleaching comes at an interesting time, with this event being the first time bleaching occurred during a La Niña season.

Dr Selina Ward, a Senior Lecturer in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Queensland, is disappointed by the delay and says that more needs to be done to protect the Reef.
