Breaking negative stereotypes and starting positive conversations about the diversity and reality of modern Africa – are some of the goals sited by the Director of Australia’s first African Film Festival.

The festival starts tomorrow in the Sydney city of Paramatta and will run across the weekend, showing a range of films in terms of genres and from all corners of the continent.

Director of the festival, Mumbi Hinga, who originates from Kenya and has made Australia her home, told the Wire’s Martin Davies what film goers can expect.
