Leaders elected at first meeting for SA’s Voice to Parliament

The Uluru Statement from the Heart called for a legislated Indigenous Voice to Federal Parliament – and despite the defeat of last year’s National Referendum, several jurisdictions across Australia are taking steps to honour that request.

Ahead of the failed vote on the Voice last year, the South Australian Government legislated a Voice to State Parliament.

The inaugural meeting of the South Australian Voice took place last month, hearing from 12 representatives chosen from 6 geographical regions that represent the state, who were elected two months earlier.  One representative is Yamatji and Ngarrindjeri man Douglas Clinch Jr, appointed as one of two presiding members.
