The federal Labor party has announced a plan to cap the intake of international students to 270 000, citing pre-pandemic numbers for the reduction.

While larger universities and the Greens Party are against the idea, smaller, more regional universities have welcomed it.

This policy shift has sparked a debate on the balance between maintaining educational quality and ensuring access for international students.
