A recent Monash University study shows a significant rise in silicosis cases among artificial stone workers, with 90 percent emerging in the last eight years. Silicosis, an irreversible lung disease, severely impacts workers’ health and livelihood.
Despite early warnings, artificial stone was only banned last year. Government-funded health screenings have been vital in managing and identifying cases, but more support for workers is essential.
