A recent Monash University study shows a significant rise in silicosis cases among artificial stone workers, with 90 percent emerging in the last eight years. Silicosis, an irreversible lung disease, severely impacts workers’ health and livelihood.

Despite ​early warnings, artificial stone was only banned last year. Government-funded health screenings have been vital in managing and identifying cases, but more support for workers is essential.
