Hamas have been given 3 to 4 days to respond to the 20-point peace plan issued by the Trump Administration.

On Tuesday at a White House press conference Donald Trump, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanhyu, released the plan which is intended to bring an immediate end to the war.

The plan demands that Hamas release all remaining hostages and hand over all their weapons.  Cooperation from Hamas will also enable the immediate entry of humanitarian aid without interference.

The peace plan calls for a initial redevelopment of Gaza through a temporary transitional governing committee.  The proposed committee is to be chaired by Trump, alongside other leaders including Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.  Hamas and related factions are not permitted to play any role in a future governance of Gaza.

Among its long term objectives, the plan allows for a pathway to Palestinian self-determination and Palestinian statehood. This comes just one week after Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the idea of Palestinian statehood during a speech at the UN General Assembly.

Trump has backed Israel’s determination to “finish the job” if Hamas refuses the deal.  Most Arab states support the deal, adding further pressure on Hamas to accept it.

The plan has been criticised for lacking detail and its ability to maintain long-term peace.
