Lockdowns, caring commitments and changed work arrangements affected volunteer organisations as people became less able to make it in to help during the pandemic.
Now research has shown that although numbers could have been expected to bounce back – they haven’t; a third are missing, often the younger people. Although many people still volunteer in other ways, the lack of frontline volunteers are severely hampering the ability of charities and volunteer organisations to function.
Next week the 2023 Volunteering NSW State Conference will be looking hard at solutions to this urgent problem, which is a nationwide issue.
