Last month, the Inaugural First Nations Dingo Forum was held in Cairns, with over 20 Nations calling on all levels of government to end lethal control of dingoes and to designate them as a protected species.
The animal has proved controversial with some state governments, like New South Wales, where they are treated as pests.
Recent evidence suggests dingoes play a vital role in our ecosystem and hold a significant place in the cultural and spiritual practices of First Nations folk throughout the country.
The Wire’s Toni Pankaluic spoke with Dr Bradley Smith, a Dingo Expert & Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Central Queensland University (Adelaide Campus) to learn more about our dingoes.
