Residents of Alice Springs, at the heart of Australia, will soon be preparing for a second night of 10pm to 6am curfew.

A 72 hour after-dark shut down of the town centre began on Monday, after disturbances over the weekend, that included four off duty police officers, allegedly being attacked while walking home in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The curfew has re-awoken arguments about social issues in the town.

One person who has stepped forward to try and find a solution is Northern Territories Australian of the year, Blair Mcfarland, who spoke with the Wire’s Martin Davies.
