In a recent development, Azerbaijan military forces launched a full-scale attack on the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Artsakh to ethnic Karabakh Armenians, forcing Karabakh forces to surrender. Following the takeover, the President of Azerbaijan announced the restoration of his nation’s sovereignty over the region.

Since December 2022, they’ve been living under a civilian blockade implemented by the Azerbaijani forces, with limited access through the Lachin Corridor. Even humanitarian organisations like the ICRC have faced disruptions.

Azerbaijan’s current objective is to assert full control over the previously seceded region.
