The Albanese government has announced a new target aiming to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 62–70% per cent by 2035, a similar target to meet the worlds collective target of net zero by 2050.
The pledge has received mixed reactions, with climate advocates across the country outraged at the figure, while industry experts reflect on what implementation could mean for their sector.
Program manager for climate and energy at the Australian Conservation Foundation Gavan McFadzean, says the target is extremely disappointing with figures falling short of what is needed.
