The dramatic collapse of Rex Airlines last year forced the Federal Government to step in to maintain air services in regional Australia as an interim measure.

Rex has been the reliable mainstay for many country towns where air travel is essential for work, health services and commerce.

Most regional routes have been financially viable and the receivers have been looking for a buyer for the regional business, but a few days ago the Prime Minister flagged that the Government may end up buying Rex.
