An ominous strengthening massive tropical low pressure system in the Coral Sea is predicted to hit Far North Queensland from Ayr to Mackay, including Mackay, Bowen and the Whitsunday Islands from Wednesday afternoon.
Residents from Cairns to St Lawrence have been warned to take shelter and prepare for cyclonic winds from Cyclone Kirrily.
Wind gusts of up to 155 kmh could be expected according to the Bureau of Meteorology
Widespread flooding in North Queensland could result depending on the path the cyclone takes, and preparations by emergency services as far south as Northern NSW are underway.
Contact the SES 132 500 for non-life threatening flood and storm emergency assistance during severe weather events. If the situation is life threatening, always call Triple Zero (000) – or 112 if your mobile is out of coverage.
