Campaigns advocating for the freedom of Julian Assange, an Australian journalist, editor publisher have come to Brisbane.
Assange was convicted in Australia for hacking in 1996. He founded WikiLeaks in 2006 and the organisation came to international attention in 2010 when it published a series of leaks highlighting U.S war crimes in Iraq.
Assange has been persecuted for 13 years. He is currently confined in Belmarsh prison in London, and has been since April 2019.
The Wire’s Aryana Mohmood spoke with the organiser of The Persecution of Truth conference, Dr John Jiggens about this case and the impact Assange has had on the journalism industry.
