Turkiye will be the official host country for the COP31 climate summit following a highly contested bidding process against Australia and the Pacific Island nations.

Australia and the Pacific region will still play important roles for COP31 following a new unique compromise with Turkiye.

But without Australia and the Pacific in the drivers’ seat, what impact will the loss have on the region?
