A snap press conference blindsided journalists in Melbourne as Daniel Andrews revealed he was resigning as Premier of Victoria effective 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The successful Premier felt that the ‘time was right’ and he would be looking forward to spending time with his family, reading and playing golf. His Cabinet colleagues had heard the news just 2 hours earlier, so phones will be running hot well into the night looking for support for tomorrows caucus meeting slated for midday Wednesday to select the next Victorian Premier.
Andrews said he had “changed his mind” on his commitment to see out his third term and earlier had had a conversation with PM Anthony Albanese with whom he has had a long term friendship.
