The number of dementia sufferers is increasing, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are three times more likely to suffer from this degenerative disease. In part this is due to Australian Health departments lacking cultural knowledge of how to care for dementia sufferers in these communities.
Dr Dina Logiudice and Roslyn Mayla from the University of Melbourne spoke to us about their research into a best practice guide to cognitive impairment and dementia care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to change treatment of dementia in places like The Kimberley.
