Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has spoken with China’s President Xi Jinping in a historic meeting between the two leaders. This ushers in renewed potential for improved diplomatic ties between China and Australia.
Albanese asserted that any relations with China would not come at the expensive of Australia safeguarding its sovereignty and interests. However, he maintained that their bilateral relationship was still an important one.
Both Albanese and Xi agreed that China and Australia had ‘complementary economies’ and would benefit from freer trade.
