Ex-Bulldogs player Jackson Topine launched legal action against his former club for “unlawful corporal punishment” after coming late to a training session. The Australian reported that the 22-year-old was forced to wrestle with “30 to 35” teammates, resulting in “physical and mental impairment”.
It is believed that in a statement of claim lodged with the NSW Supreme Court, Topine was allegedly forced to wrestle an entire senior squad after a 90-minute wrestling session on July 18, 2023.
The Australian said that this incident has the potential “to be the biggest crisis for Canterbury (-Bankstown Bulldogs) since the Coffs Harbour gang rape allegations” in 2004.
Some in the community say that violent incidents like these in Australian sport might mean something more detrimental in the Country.
