Dairy companies have announced their opening farm gate prices ahead of the new financial year.

Farm gate prices indicate the standard cost of milk purchased directly from farms, before retailers or supermarkets mark-up the cost.

Milk prices have increased from last year, up to $8.60-9.20 per kilogram of milk solids.

However, farmers in Victoria and New South Wales were hoping for a greater increase, as they continue to struggle with droughts and floods.
