Farmers must work with First Nations peoples to protect heritage sites

First Nations peoples and Queensland researchers say the Queensland government’s legislation to protect Aboriginal heritage sites is flawed.

Experts highlight how the Queensland’s Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act failed to protect the culturally sacred Aboriginal site in Kingvale Station in Cape York, with a pastoralist clearing 500 hectares of native bushland.

The Queensland Government prosecuted the pastoralist but he was found not guilty for destroying a culturally significant Aboriginal heritage site.
