Homeless people are being left to sleep in tents and public toilets while social housing sits empty in Mt Gambier, it has been revealed by Shadow Minister for Human Services Nat Cook.
There are 48 social housing properties sitting empty across the region that are not being filled despite over 100 people on the wait list for public housing.
Service providers in the area are doing what they can to help the homeless community but with resources becoming exhausted there is only so much they can do. There are calls for action from the government to do more to assist those who are vulnerable.
