A unanimous late-night vote on Wednesday in the Upper House will see South Australia become the first state to ban the use of spit hoods in corrections, police and mental health settings.

The bill – commonly known as Fella’s Bill – comes 5 years after the death of Wayne “Fella” Morrison when he was subject to the use of a spit hood while in custody in Adelaide .
