Earlier today, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called for a downtown curfew from 8pm to 6am in an attempt to deescalate recent protests over ICE deportations.

The Trump administration has responded to these protests by deploying 4,000 national guard troops and 700 marines, who are expected to stay for at least 60 days or until the area is declared safe.

Marlena Holdernesse asked Brandon O’Connor, Professor of US Politics and US Foreign Relations at The University of Sydney what message the Trump administration wants to send by this show of force.
