It’s NAIDOC week and as part of the week long celebration held across the nation, historian Dr. Michael Bennett will speak with the Dharriwaa Elders Group’s and other community members in the town of Walgett to hear about his findings. These include records from the 1960’s Walgett Aboriginal activists who were apart of the Freedom rides in 1965.

These findings come about as Dr. Bennett had been awarded the 2024 CH Currey Fellowship by NSW State Library.

The NAIDOC theme for this year is “Keep the fire burning! Blak, Loud and Proud”.

According to NAIDOC the theme celebrates “the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced”.
