NSW Police officer charged over alleged assault of Indigenous teen

The incident took place in Sydney last June. A video of the incident sparked outrage on social media, where the officer involved was accused of using excessive force.

The incident happened as racial injustice at the hands of police was in the global spotlight, thanks to the Black Lives Matter movement. Advocates say the police officer being charged is a necessary step towards justice, but there is still a long way to go when it comes to addressing the wider issues which cause such incidents to occur in the first place.
