School-leavers around the country are gathering in destination towns for the annual rite of passage holiday.

One of the most popular destinations is Byron Bay, where the party trend seems to have changed over the years.

From heady alcohol-fuelled days described earlier this century to more recent sober affairs, police from near and far are still part of the Byron Schoolies scene in terms of official safety preparations.
