New Zealanders living with rare diseases are calling on their government for a similar medicine discount system to Australia.

Currently, only a third of all prescription medications are subsidised across the Tasman, putting people with less common illnesses at a significant disadvantage.

Samantha Lenik was diagnosed with Pompeii disease, a genetic condition which lacks specific digestive enzymes, making a person fatigued.
