New figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics reveal a troubling rise in food insecurity — with one in eight households unable to afford enough food.

The rising cost of living means families are cutting back on fresh produce and protein, often turning to cheap, processed foods just to get by.

Senior Lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics from University of Wollongong, Dr Katherine Kent, say the nutritional cost of food insecurity is driving long-term health issues and deepening inequality across generations.
