The Butchulla community were given reason to celebrate last week as Fraser Island has been renamed to the K’gari World Heritage Area after a decade long campaign.
This event marks one of many recent cases of Indigenous name repatriations across the nation. These reclamations of Indigenous names speak to the importance of language in our understanding and representation of Australian culture and history.
