Free remote laundry services in the Northern Territory are helping to prevent scabies and related health conditions in remote communities.
According to the NT government’s website, scabies is a condition caused by a microscopic mite, and it’s a common problem in Aboriginal communities, where 50 percent of children and 25 percent of adults are affected.
The Remote Laundries project, established by Aboriginal Investment Group in 2019, places laundries in large shipping containers in communities, and the project is continuing to grow across remote areas in the territory, where there’s been a 60 percent drop of scabies.
