The Grattan Institute are calling for a massive overhaul of Medicare, Aged Care Program Director Peter Breadon, says the current system needs to be overhauled to employ teams of health workers, including physiotherapists and nurses, to better manage Australia’s rising incidence of chronic and complex diseases.
The new published report also claims that if the government adopts a model that encourages general practice and GPs to work in teams with other medical professions it will help people turn the tide of chronic disease and keep them out of hospital.
Australia has a unique Medicare system unlike any other country, and reforms continue to be made to better serve patients.
