Six Federal MPs have embarked on a five day visit of Taiwan- the first Australian politicians to visit the island since 2019.

The bipartisan group of backbenchers includes two Labor MPs, as well as former leader of the National Party, Barnaby Joyce.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says while this visit has not been organised by the government, it is not unusual for Australian backbenchers to visit Taiwan.
