The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (or ACARA) announced the consultation process to change the national curriculum in schools across Australia has already begun. The proposed changes will affect all areas, such as Science, Humanities, and Mathematics.
One of the biggest proposed changes is to teach history from the First Nations perspective, introducing the concept of colonisation, invasion, and will include more ‘truth telling’ stories about the experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history.
Experts say this is the right path to healing, and hope Aboriginal groups, coalitions, historians, and Traditional Owners participate in the process.
