Image:Hal Wootten championed the use of the law to protect the environment

Hal Wootton QC who apssed away this week at the age of 99 was known for a brilliant legal mind and his strong committment to Indigenous rights and recognition, fair and open processes and equal access to justice.

He also brough the law to the environment in the 1980’s when he served as president of the Australian Conservation Foundation at a time when the fight to save the Daintree was on in earnest.

Writer and historian Gregg Borschmann remembers Hal Wootton’s achievemnents, and shares his memories of  adventures  the two had in the rainforests of Far North Queensland
