Floods throughout the east coast of Australia have continued as the La Niña weather system relentlessly pours down. Urban sprawl has led to development of housing on floodplains in Sydney’s west, leaving vulnerable communities at high risk of flood damages.
Professor Elizabeth Mossop, the Dean of design, architecture and building at the University of Technology Sydney, provides insight into the kinds of infrastructure practices that exacerbate, or mitigate, flood risk, and what individuals should do to mitigate flood risk now.
