Gift giving remains firmly interwoven  in our Festive Season traditions. But, according to recent research from the Australian Institute, more than 6 million Australians believe they will receive gifts they will not use or wear, leaving these unwanted gifts destined for landfill.

Nina Gbor, Director of the Waste & Circular Economy program Circular Economy program at The Australian Institute says “almost $1bn of Christmas gifts are going to go to waste this year.”

So, what are the impacts of Christmas waste and what more does the current survey show about Australian gift giving?
