New research from the Australia Institute suggests that the prospects for coal mining in the Upper Hunter are less positive than some of the bye election candidates are claiming.

Basic economics dictates that a dramatic increase in production, at a time when world demand is falling, will lower prices and threaten existing mining jobs.
