Vaccine Rollout in Rural Indigenous Areas

The AstraZeneca vaccine has been made available today for indigenous people over 55, as the next wave of the government’s rollout continues. There have been setbacks throughout the entire process, with the worst flooding in 50 years closing multiple key routes to remote locations. Part of this process has been to build health-based infrastructure in such areas for the vaccinations to safely occur – a step in the right direction towards bettering Australia’s poor rural indigenous healthcare services.

Linda Burney, Shadow Minister for Indigenous Affairs, discusses the government’s current vaccine rollout plan, any delays in the process and the reaction from the indigenous community.
