Waterholes: a ‘sacred’ link to life and culture in remote First Nations communities

For First Nations people, connection to Country is vital, with land and water remaining central to culture.

New research on male migration across remote communities in central Australia, shows waterholes are significant in shaping patterns of migration.

But, poisoning or damage to waterholes could impact their link to Indigenous cultural value; storytelling and knowledge-sharing.

National Radio News reporter, Amy O’Halloran asked Researcher at the University of South Australia Dr John Binda Reid, why waterholes are important to First Nations people.
