Lithgow, once a powerhouse of coal and steel, is a city defined by its strong industrial heritage. Now it’s fighting for a new chapter.

The local council and transport experts are lobbying the state and federal governments to revive the city’s railway yard, not just as a heritage site, but as the birthplace of a cleaner, greener rail industry.

At the heart of the plan is to retrofit vintage trains with solar technology, making Lithgow a hub for innovation and tourism built on the city’s underrated charm.
